ABCD: Intro Motor Skills
ages 6 months to 3½ years
Through a specially designed program of "directed play," children build confidence, self-esteem and social skills as they build a strong physical foundation. They have such a good time playing, they’d never know the scientifically-based curriculum of progressive motor skill development is so good for them! (Please don’t tell, it would spoil the fun!)
Program Overview
In these classes, Players, with parental support, enjoy physical exploration and play, and develop a broad base of age-appropriate motor skills in the process. A full range of locomotor, stability and manipulative skills are covered through unique games in our continuous curriculum, that goes "way beyond gymnastics."
Activities in a typical class might include climbing, swinging, obstacle courses, interactive throwing and kicking games, balancing, rhythm, tumbling, sensory integration, and, of course, a lot of playing around and having a good time!
The program is broken up into four subgroups (A, B, C and D) based on age and stage of development, with skills and activities progressing at each stage.
No two classes are alike. To keep Players exploring, our specialized equipment is set up differently every day. Our classes unfold as exciting stories and our Interactive Arena™ places us in different settings throughout the event - from jumping in the snowy hills to a limbo on a sunny beach. Every visit is a fun-filled adventure!
Class Flow
The classes mix structure with the freedom to explore, as skills are developed through unique games and activities. Different creative activities are used in every class, but the structured flow of the class remains the same. This consistent flow makes each class comfortable and familiar, but never confining.
Classes begin with a free play period followed by circle time, when we sing and move and warm up to get ready for all the exciting activities ahead!
Next we move into station time, when Players explore three unique activities per class - a locomotor, a manipulative and a stability station.
Next, it's game time! Our phenomenal coaches lead the fun, with special guest appearances from everyone's favorite animated mascot, Buddy! These games, collectively, focus on stability, cooperation, and body/space awareness.
Once everyone's had plenty of high energy fun, we calm things back down a bit with swing time and manipulatives, before gathering for rhythm and a final song. Players and parents alike leave smiling and with a sense of accomplishment!
